WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
Therapy for trauma that's actually trauma informed.
Decolonizing Therapy
Separating mental health care from colonial systems and beliefs.
Beyond acknowledging our privilege and how that has shaped our own experiences as therapists, we recognize the deep roots and inherent harms of colonialism, capitalism, and white supremacy in the mental health industry as a whole. We engage in ongoing trainings from Indigenous, Black, and Brown leaders to ensure that we are dismantling colonial structures and ideals from how we show up with you as a client.
Radical Acceptance
Accepting you exactly as you are, without judgment of your "problems" or "symptoms".
We don’t just acknowledge your symptoms as “problems” or “disorders.” We truly preach acceptance above all—meaning that you are ALLOWED to think, feel, act, or speak in any way that you wish and will not be penalized for it. We will not label you “resistant” if you don’t want to work on something; we won’t force you to quit doing something to be eligible for services. Excluding harassment of our team, we will genuinely accept anything that you show up with with open arms, and this will be a big part of our treatment approach as well. We’ve learned that the more we call something “bad,” “wrong,” “disordered,” or “problematic,” the harder it becomes for clients to feel empowered to change. So whether it’s intense anger, substance use or addiction, persistent overthinking, or just an overall lack of readiness to change—we won’t judge you for any of it. We will only support your goals for change if and when you want to change.
Non-Carceral Care
Utilizing services other than police or forced hospitalization to support clients in crisis.
We believe that safety planning for clients who are suicidal or at other risk of harm should prioritize consent, autonomy, and safety, so we commit to not calling police or emergency services in client care unless explicitly requested. We commit to following our ethical “duty to report” by creating a detailed and comprehensive plan with you that you feel safe with. Understanding the harms done unto marginalized populations in particular from carceral action (e.g., police involvement, forced hospitalization) led us to commit to alternative methods for care.
Genuineness & Normalizing Experiences
Our Story
Baldwin Psychotherapy is run by Kaitlin Baldwin—who describes herself as a "big feeler." Kaitlin knew that she couldn't be the only one who struggled with sadness, fear, anger, and loneliness. From the age of 10, she knew she wanted to be a therapist. She devoted her life to creating a space where people not only felt safe and accepted to show those emotions, but a place where they were normalized, too.
When you call or email Baldwin Psychotherapy, you'll connect directly with her, and she'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
As a team, our ultimate goal is for every client to be able to lovingly embrace the messy, complicated, and lovely parts of being human. Our intent is not to "fix" any one person—because we will never see you as a problem. Through therapy and counselling, we support our clients to be able to accept themselves wholly for who they are.
We've all worked in agencies and larger practices where clients would get lost in the shuffle, and we never wanted that to happen at Baldwin Psychotherapy. We know that you deserve to be treated like a HUMAN first, not just a list of mental health symptoms.
However you choose to reach out, we will work hard to collaborate with you and create a unique plan that will help you feel better.
