Kaitlin Baldwin
M.A., Registered Psychotherapist
Pronouns: she/her
Therapy Style: Bottom line is I want you to no longer need therapy, and we achieve that by diving into some uncomfortable and challenging stuff. There's no immediate pressure to "fix" anything, especially because most people hold themselves to extremely unrealistic standards of how they "should" be; something I usually address right away is letting go of those expectations once you walk in the door. Once we have a strong relationship, I will start to challenge you to lean into the difficult and uncomfortable feelings, because that is where the healing happens. I also truly believe that you have the skills and self-knowledge to overcome your difficulties; what may be missing is a supportive and empathetic environment that you can feel safe in.
Models & Therapeutic Approaches: My main focus is to balance two things: fully accepting who we are & what we experience now and changing for the better. Rather than looking at each symptom or mental health disorder separately, we work on addressing the underlying processes beneath all kinds of challenges (anxiety, substance use, depression, anger, etc.); this allows us to create sustainable healing and change. As a trauma-informed therapist, I use a combination of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory of Trauma, and Motivational Interviewing.
